Underwriting

One underwriter per season. Credit in the House ledger. No influence

A single seat supports the work that names what endures in women’s culture. The canon stays independent. The Edit stays independent. The House acknowledges support with precision and discretion.

What this is

Underwriting keeps the lights on the standard. It allows slow, exacting work across The Index, The Edit, Art of Her, and the Index Annual while the bar holds. It is a quiet partnership built on alignment and restraint.

What you underwrite

  • The Index — research, writing, and citations that admit people, practices, objects, and codes.

  • The Edit — essays that teach a grammar of care and help readers see clearly.

  • Art of Her — portraits of women at work with cues for use.

  • The Index Annual — the printed codex that records the year’s admitted entries and notes.

Brands and houses are not admitted. Where relevant, a maker may be cited in provenance only.

What you receive

  • Ledger credit — a named line in the House Ledger for the season.

  • Colophon credit — a discreet credit line in the Index Annual for that season.

  • Reading room — two early view windows per season for works in progress.

  • Salon seats — a small invitation to one private conversation where process is discussed, not decided.

  • Season note — a letterpressed acknowledgement card for archival use.

No logos. No product placement. No sponsored editorial. No social deliverables.

Independence kept

Admissions and editorial are house-led. Underwriting cannot influence the canon, the essays, or the shortlist formats. Credit is acknowledgment only.

  2. Fit and alignment — the House confirms alignment and season timing.

  3. Agreement and invoice — a simple agreement outlines credit, discretion, and dates.

  4. Season credit — your ledger line is posted when the season opens.
